From March 5 to 17, 2025, six students from the School of Engineering and four from the Graduate School of Information Science and Electrical Engineering participated in a 10-day semiconductor education program at Boise State University in Idaho, United States (U.S.). The program was part of the Japan-U.S. University Partnership for Workforce Advancement and Research & Development in Semiconductors (UPWARDS).

Established in 2023, UPWARDS is a consortium of 11 universities from the U.S. and Japan, including Kyushu University. The initiative is supported by contributions from private companies in the U.S. and Japan, with a focus on nurturing future semiconductor professionals.

The students in this program learned about semiconductors, from the basics to advanced applications. They also conducted hands-on training in a cleanroom, where they fabricated and evaluated semiconductor devices. Furthermore, they had a fruitful experience presenting and discussing their research topics with members of Boise State University.

Kyushu University will continue to actively collaborate with partner universities in the UPWARDS consortium to foster talented individuals in the semiconductor field.
